San Francisco Ballet has announced casting of the lead roles, Onegin & Tatiana, for the entire run of its 2012 season’s most eagerly anticipated-and first-program, the SFB premiere of John Cranko’s masterpiece, Onegin, one of ballet’s most highly acclaimed and dramatically challenging works, which opens in just 6 days…
…and they did it while Odette was at dinner and a movie (the fabulous movie ‘Pina’–more about that below casting), and not even finished with her ‘Gala’ post-the nerve! Odette will be back with her Gala review and Onegin preview, but until then, chew on this, why dontcha?:

Please use this link to the SFB Casting page for continued vigilance-as noted everywhere above, casting is subject to change and frequently does, peeps; some of us often forget that even dancers are subject to illness and injury (file that in the ‘Dancers are people too’ file…):

‘Odette’
(Oh-that movie I went to earlier?: ‘Pina‘, which just had its official public premiere in San Francisco, and is a DO NOT MISS for any dance fan of any genre. Aside from it being a labor of love for the filmmaker, Wim Wender, and the dancers-Pina’s own-of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, this homage to Pina Bausch, modern dance’s brilliant German choreographer and undisputed inventor of the genre called ‘Dance Theatre’, who suddenly passed away during the movie’s filming, boasts an absolutely spectacular use of 3D cinematography-like nothing you’ve ever seen before-and it’s setting the dance film world on fire with critics calling it the cutting edge technology for art/dance films to come. I was mesmerized and you will be too. Check out the trailer below.)
Maria and Vitor are absolutely great.
I love Maria Kochetkova, she is an amazing dancer!
